AUSTINTOWN -- A 22-year-old Leetonia woman was charged with four counts of assault after being accused of biting and scratching four people at a party on Aldrich Road. Police were called to the home at 3:34 a.m. Saturday after the woman, whom police reports described as "highly intoxicated and very upset," was accused of punching a 25-year-old Struthers man in the nose.
Police said the woman, who is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds, bit the right shoulder and scratched the neck of a 22-year-old Girard woman, scratched the neck of a 25-year-old Youngstown man and grabbed another 25-year-old Youngstown man by the neck and kicked him in the head. Witnesses said the altercation began when the woman was asked to leave the small get-together. The woman was to be arraigned in Mahoning County Court this afternoon.
Woman admits thefts
AUSTINTOWN -- An employee at Kmart on Mahoning Avenue has told police she stole $825 in cash cards from the store to feed her four daughters. The woman was brought to the police station Friday afternoon after Kmart managers videotaped her stealing a $300 cash card. It was the fourth cash card she admitted stealing, police said.
The woman, who had been an employee at the store since August 2000, told police she used $825 in cash cards to purchase food and a CD player for her daughters at the Super Kmart in Niles. Police decided to videotape the woman after noticing several large cash shortages at the service desk in mid-June. The woman has not been charged. She signed a statement and said she would pay back the money.
Teen-ager arrested
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 16-year-old West Ravenwood Avenue boy was arrested Saturday evening after being accused of pulling an unloaded gun at a street fight. Police say the teen was one of several spectators at a fight at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on West Ravenwood Avenue. Another West Ravenwood resident told police the boy waved the gun around during the fight. The boy ran into his house when police arrived.
The gun, which was unloaded, was found in a grill on his front porch. The boy was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and released to his mother's custody.
Drug charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 21-year-old Boston Avenue man was arrested on charges of drug abuse and obstructing official business after he ran from police Saturday afternoon.
Police approached the man in a Garfield Street driveway as he and another man were removing stereo equipment from a car. When he recognized the police, the Boston Avenue man threw a plastic bag containing crack cocaine on the ground, police said. He ran when police officers discussed making an arrest, fleeing across Garfield before giving himself up in a yard on Breaden Street. Police said they found more crack in a bag sitting on a table in the Garfield Street home.
Toddler injured in fall
GIRARD -- A South Randolph Street toddler was treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after falling out of a second-story window over the weekend. According to a police report, Steve Heckman, 17 months, was in his bed near a window and may have pushed or leaned on the screen and it gave way. It appears the toddler fell about a foot onto the porch roof, then about 10 to 12 feet to the ground, police said.
