Wagners observe 50th anniversary at banquet center



YOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. Charles Robert Wagner, 1350 Hazelwood Ave., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends during a gathering held June 23 at Antone's Banquet Centre, Boardman.
Hosts for the event were the couple's daughter and her husband, Charlene and Julius Williams of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and their son, Bruce Wagner of Little Rock, Ark. There are three granddaughters in the family. A grandson is deceased.
The former Lily M. Johnson and Mr. Wagner were married May 18, 1951, at Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church, where they are members. He has served as a trustee and is on the board of deacons at the church. Mrs. Wagner has been active in the Sunday school program for more than 40 years, serving as a teacher, department supervisor and assistant superintendent.
Mr. Wagner served with the U.S. Army in the field artillery during the Korean War. He retired in 1981 from Youngstown Steel Door Co., where he was a welder, welding supervisor and a rate evaluator. He also worked as a deputy sheriff in the security department at Youngstown Municipal Airport, retiring in 1993.
Mrs. Wagner was employed at General Electric as an inspector and retired in 1993 as production coordinator of the inspection department after 27 years of service.
