Ejected: Scrappers manager Dave Turgeon was ejected by first-base umpire Jayson Cline for arguing an out in the 10th inning. The ejection preceded Yankees center fielder Kaazim Summerville falling while making a running catch of a ball off the bat of Rickie Morton.
On deck: The Scrappers hit the road today for a six-game trip to Williamsport and Batavia to play the top two teams in the Pinckney-Stedler Division. Mahoning Valley plays tonight through Tuesday against the second-place Crosscutters, then journeys north for games Wednesday and Thursday against the first-place Muckdogs.
See ya! Shortstop Zach Sorensen has completed his rehabilitation assignment with the Scrappers and has been sent to the Double-A Akron Aeros. Recovering from shoulder surgery, Sorensen batted .245 with one homer and 11 RBIs for the Scrappers.
Streak snapped: Outfielder Miguel Quintana's seven-game hitting streak, the longest of the season for the Scrappers, was snapped Thursday. He singled in the 10th inning Friday to start a new streak.
Bring on the lefties: The Scrappers are 3-2 in games started by left-handed pitchers. They are 3-16 against 'righties.'
Stealers wanted: The Scrappers are 10-for-20 in stolen base attempts this year. Their total is the lowest in the New York-Penn League. Bryce Uegawachi stole second base in the ninth inning of Friday's game.
More stolen bases: Yankees lead-off batter Kaazim Summerville stole second base in the third and fifth innings. John-Ford Griffin also recorded a steal against Scrappers catcher Charlie Scott.
Middle relief: Todd Pennington relieved Scrappers starter Nick Moran in the sixth inning and recorded five strikeouts in his first three innings. He whiffed the side in the Yankees' seventh inning.
Close calls: The Scrappers had baserunners in the eighth and ninth innings, but couldn't break the 3-3 tie. In the eighth inning, Jonathan Van Every walked and Angel Bastardo singled. The inning ended when Francis Finnerty grounded into a doubleplay. In the ninth inning, Uegawachi walked, stole second base and reached third on a groundout. Eric Thompson's strikeout ended the threat.
Dozen errors: Finnerty, the Scrappers' third baseman, had two errors to give him 12 for the season.
