Radio host to returnafter procedure
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dan Ryan, longtime local radio personality and talk show host on WKBN-AM 570, is expected back at work Monday after an angioplasty procedure over the weekend. "He's at home, resting comfortably," his producer, Jerry Beulah, said.
Ryan, a Cleveland native, began his local radio career in 1949 as an announcer at WBBW-AM. He became host of his first talk show in 1965 and moved his "Open Mike" program to WKBN in 1984.
On-air movie critic
YOUNGSTOWN -- Vindicator film critic Milan Paurich praises and pans cinema on "The Movie Game," a new talk show on WBBW-AM radio 1240. Show host Pat Mulrooney asks Paurich questions about new movies, upcoming movies and anything else that's showing on local screens. The show will precede some of WBBW's broadcasts of Mahoning Valley Scrappers baseball games. Hear it from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Friday.
Singer takes on roles
BARDSTOWN, Ky. -- Holly Matyas of Cortland is performing in repertory this summer at My Old Kentucky Home State Park Amphitheatre. She'll have the role of Mother Superior in "Show Boat" from Wednesday through Aug. 12. She has various roles in "The Stephen Foster Story," which closes Sept. 2. Matyas studies vocal performance and dance at Oberlin College.

Bird, grain programs
PORTERSVILLE, Pa. -- Programs on bird identification and grains will be featured at McConnell's Mill State Park, along U.S. Route 422.
"Good Morning Birds" begins at 8 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot near Breakneck Bridge. A naturalist will identify various birds and the sounds they make, which are commonly heard in the morning. Participants should bring bird field guides, binoculars and a blanket or chair to sit on.
"Stone Ground Grain Day" will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Old Mill. Buckwheat banana bread, cornmeal cookies and oatmeal raisin bread will be available.
