Mack tourney to be preceded by showcase in front of scouts



STRUTHERS -- College baseball coaches and major league scouts will converge on Cene Park next week when the Connie Mack state tournaments is played from Wednesday through July 22.
Hundreds of baseball prospects from around the state will participate in the tournament.
Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Class B Baseball will sponsor a baseball showcase for students who just graduated and players who will graduate from high school by June 2004.
College coaches and pro scouts will attend the daylong workout at Cene Park.
Recruiting workshop: The program will begin with a player recruiting workshop conducted by Scott Knox, the Boardman High baseball coach and a former college coach.
Knox will share his extensive knowledge of the college recruiting system, including NCAA rules and regulations. Parents are encouraged to attend this workshop.
The rest of the Showcase will include workouts for pitchers, catchers and position players, and will end with batting practice.
Players should bring their own uniform and bat. Catchers must supply their equipment. Pen and notebook are recommended for the workshop.
Prices are $70 in advance and $80 on the day of the Showcase.
