HERMITAGE, PA. Womancare Center plans dedication celebration

Tours, a health fair and lectures on women's health-care topics will be offered at the center's official opening.
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon will officially open its doors with a dedication ceremony at 1 p.m. next Sunday.
Molly Barker, a triathlete and founder and president of the Girls on the Run program, will be the keynote speaker.
Girls on the Run is a national program designed to help girls in grades three through six develop positive self-images through a combination of athletics and education on such issues as drugs and alcohol, gossip and physical and emotional health.
UPMC Horizon and Magee-Womens Hospital are sponsoring the program in Mercer County, with the first program started at Reynolds Elementary School this spring.
The Womancare Center is also a joint project of UPMC Horizon and Magee-Womens Hospital of Pittsburgh. Both are part of the UPMC Health System network.
Plans for the $4.5 million project in Hermitage Medical Park, 875 N. Hermitage Road, were announced in October.
Patients served: Some physicians already have begun seeing patients at the new facility.
The center is devoted to the unique health-care needs of women, said J. Larry Heinike, president and chief executive officer of UPMC Horizon.
About 60 percent of the 25,000-square-foot building will serve as space for physician's offices. The rest of the building houses a diagnostic center and an education center.
The facility will offer a full range of diagnostic procedures including mammograms, ultrasound, X-ray, bone density and breast biopsy.
Prenatal care and testing as well as newborn and children's services also will be offered.
The center will be open from 1:30 to 4 p.m. after the dedication, offering self-guided tours, a women's health fair, and a chance to speak directly with physicians and others about women's health issues.
There also will be a series of small lectures each half-hour beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Topics include infertility/in vitro fertilization, minimally invasive surgery, women's cancer and women and nicotine.
