BOWLING Martin, Marshall get top YBA honor
Three new members of the association's hall of fame were inducted at the annual dinner.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Jackie Martin and Dan Marshall Jr. were honored as director of the year and secretary of the year, respectively, during the Youngstown Bowling Association's annual hall of fame and awards dinner last month.
The awards pertained to the 2000-2001 season.
The association's sponsors-of-the-year were Terry Pixler Sr., Wesley Prout and Dennis Robb.
During the hall of fame portion of the dinner, Tom Posey, Jim "Lefty" Shopinsky and the late John "Jack" Lawson Sr. were inducted.
Officers for the 2001-2002 season will be: John Beene, president; Andy Chicase, first VP; Jack Kechler, second VP; Joe Haus, secretary-treasurer; and Ted Bundy, assistant secretary-treasurer.
The banquet recognized city tournament champions: Lucianno's (team handicap) and The Graham Group (actual); Doug Ennett (all-events handicap) and Frank Tondo II (all-events actual); George Howell-Ulysses Rucker (doubles handicap) and Ennett-Art Berquist (doubles actual) and Russ Slagle (singles handicap and actual).
Awards: Martin has been a director for three years -- two at Classic Lanes and one at A-Plus Family Bowl.
He's also served on several committees including city tournament, hall of fame, lane certification, audit and by-laws. Martin started bowling in 1963.
Marshall was secretary of the Lutheran Men's League at Camelot. He was selected from 30 nominees. The award is given to the secretary who excels in all of his duties as prescribed by the American Bowling Congress and the YBA. He is also Lutheran's treasurer.
Sponsors: Pixler has sponsored the Affordable Home Repair League at A-Plus for four years. He also sponsors teams. Pixler has been involved in league bowling or over 20 years and his the Affordable league's vice-president.
Three generations have sponsored Prout Heating & amp; Welding teams, previously at Mar-Hill Lanes and currently at Boardman Lanes. Wesley Prout is company president.
Robb has sponsored leagues and teams for over 50 years. He was chosen for 2000-2001 as sponsor of the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home Classic at Bell-Wick Bowl. Robb is generous with league prize fund money and has paid team entry fees for the city tournament and others.
