WARREN Show presents Packard clan's family history

The slide show is a prelude to the annual Packard Car Show.

WARREN -- A local historian says anyone interested in learning about Warren should meet one of the city's most illustrious households, the Packard family.
Wendell Lauth will give a slide presentation on the family at 2 p.m. July 19 at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. It will explore the family's contributions to area business, industry and culture.
The presentation will begin with John Packard, patriarch of the Ohio family, who settled in Trumbull County in 1814.
It will also include information on William Doud Packard, who endowed Packard Park, Packard Music Hall and the Packard Concert Band; and James Ward Packard, benefactor of the Warren Public Library and other worthy causes.

Library officials say the program is a prelude to the annual Packard Car Show, July 20-22, at the National Packard Museum on Mahoning Avenue. Hundreds of Packard cars and car collectors are expected to be in town for the show. Events for the show will center around the new museum, Packard Park and Packard Music Hall.
This will be the third annual show. The National Packard Museum opened in July 1999.
The museum was funded completely by individual, group and corporate donations of cash and in-kind services. It was constructed in a 65-year-old red brick building that was once the Packard Park pool house.
