WARREN Police probe stabbing death

Police have a suspect in custody, but no charges have been filed.

WARREN -- Police are investigating the killing of a 41-year-old Oak Street S.W. man.
Capt. Timothy Roberts said this morning that Donald Dukes was stabbed in the chest about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Police think Dukes was stabbed as he stood in the middle of Oak Street during an altercation with another man. The stabbing took place in front of 1135 Oak. Dukes lived nearby at 1124 Oak.
Dukes was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he died about 10:25 p.m.
"Right now I don't know what caused this or exactly what took place," Roberts said. "We are still in the middle of this investigation. We need to conduct further interviews and get additional statements."
Suspect in custody: Roberts said police have a suspect in custody, but no charges have been filed.
"We have contacted the county prosecutor's office and are working with them on this matter," Roberts said. "We do not want to release the name of the suspect unless an actual charge is filed."
Police said that after Dukes was stabbed, the suspect fled. Officers did not say if the suspect was found by police or if the suspect surrendered.
Police confiscated what they think is the murder weapon from the scene.
The Trumbull County Coroner's Office was expected to perform an autopsy later today.
