Sex assault on child
ENON VALLEY, Pa. -- Police have charged an Enon Valley man with indecent assault, corruption of minors and false imprisonment.
Pennsylvania State Police said Thomas M. Vogel, 37, of RD 1, Box 28, held down a 14-year-old boy and fondled him sometime between noon and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in a home off state Route 551 in Little Beaver Township.
Police said Vogel also showed the boy pornography on at least two Internet Web sites. Vogel was arrested at his home and arraigned Tuesday before District Justice J.V. Lamb. He is in the Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
Injured in crash
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said a Pittsburgh woman suffered only a broken arm when her car ran off Interstate 79 and pinned her beneath it.
Suzanne Lester, 21, was northbound in Springfield Township around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday when a deer ran into her path, police said. Her car struck the animal and she lost control, police said.
The vehicle turned sideways and rolled onto its side, pinning Lester, who had been partly ejected from the car. Police said passing motorists rolled the car off Lester, who was treated at United Community Hospital.
Marking the way
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. --The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be installing raised pavement markers on state Route 60 from the Lawrence County line north to the Interstate 80 interchange next week.
The markers are installed on the center line of the road, serving as reflectors to aid drivers' vision at night. There will be intermittent lane restrictions as the work is being done, and motorists are advised to use caution. The work begins Monday.
Burglary at business
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City police are investigating a burglary at Ultimate Exteriors, 519 S. Mill St. Police said about $400 in change was taken from the cash register and a coffee can in a file cabinet. Police said the back door was pried open.
Apartment burns
SHARON, Pa.-- Fire of undetermined origin damaged a vacant second-floor apartment at 83-85 Third Ave. Firefighters said the apartment tenants left Sunday. The fire was discovered shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Firefighters found a burner on the stove had been left on, but that wasn't the source of the fire. The blaze started in the front living room, firefighters said. They were able to confine the flames to that room, but there was extensive smoke, heat and water damage. The building is owned by Thomas Sanford of South Oakland Avenue and is insured.
Fireworks taken
NORTH LIMA -- A Mahoning County deputy sheriff took a 17-year-old South Park, Pa., boy into custody late Wednesday. He was caught with three cases of fireworks at BJ Alan Fireworks on Columbiana-Canfield Road, Beaver Township.
A store employee had reported seeing several teen-agers under a storage trailer. When the deputy confronted the 17-year-old boy, he threw the fireworks, worth $534, to the ground near his van, reports show. He was taken to the juvenile justice center, and his four companions, also from South Park, were questioned and released.
Missing man sought
RAVENNA -- The search for a missing Canton man continued Wednesday evening in the area near the Kirwan reservoir at West Branch State Park.
An abandoned boat registered to Timothy Heaton was found by state park officers at 4 p.m. Sunday on the north shore of the reservoir. Local law enforcement officers and search-and-rescue units joined in the search for Heaton on Monday morning. He was officially declared missing at 8:40 p.m. Sunday.
Drain-cleaner bomb
YOUNGSTOWN -- Another drain-cleaner bomb has been found in the city, this time on Oak Street near Garland Avenue on the East Side. Detective Sgt. Zaida Miranda spotted a smoking two-liter plastic soda bottle in the street late Tuesday and notified the fire department.
Police suspect a 15-year-old boy who lives nearby and was arrested a month ago for possession of such an explosive. This makes the fifth drain-cleaner bomb to be found since mid-April.
IDs for children
BOARDMAN -- Township police will have a children's ident-a-kit service, during which children are photographed and fingerprinted for emergency purposes, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods on Maple View Court.
There also will be a demonstration by one of three township police dogs and a handler at 2:30 p.m.
