Chevy Cavalier sales increase slightly in June

YOUNGSTOWN -- Sales of the Chevrolet Cavalier rose slightly in June, and sales of the Pontiac Sunfire fell.
General Motors Corp. said Tuesday that it sold 25,013 Cavaliers in the United States last month, compared with 24,955 Cavaliers in June 2000.
For the year, Cavalier sales are up about 8 percent at 131,461.
Pontiac sales, however, fell 13 percent in June. GM sold 7,336 Sunfires last month, compared with 8,419 in June 2000.
For the year, Sunfire sales are off about 2 percent at 43,906.
Both models are made at the Lordstown Assembly Plant.
Overall, GM sold 456,855 new cars and trucks in June, which was down 3 percent from the same month last year. Strong pickup and sport utility vehicle sales for the month gave GM a 9 percent increase in truck sales. GM said its SUV sales are on pace to set a industry record for the year.
Ford Motor Co. reported a 14.6 percent decline in sales in June, despite a record sales month for the Explorer sport utility vehicle.
Chrysler's June sales rose 1.4 percent, reversing a decline of 8 percent the previous month.
