SANDLOTS Falcons top Express on Cravener's triple



In Class AA action, the Metros beat Pal Joey's in a doubleheader.
STRUTHERS -- Garrett Cravener ripped a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning that led Astro Falcons to a 5-3 victory over Youngstown Express in the battle for first place in the Class B Baseball League at Cene Park.
The Falcons scored all five runs in that fifth-inning rally to overcome a 2-0 Express lead. Astro Falcons have a 19-6 record and Express is 18-7.
Express out-hit the Falcons 8-5 as Steve Burnich and Travis D'Amico each had two hits.
Ryan Banfield struck out seven and scattered eight hits to gain the mound win.
Sluggers 2, Alltel 0: Doug Jones pitched a four-hit shutout as Sluggers held off Alltel in a pitching duel with Dan Cashon.
Cashon allowed seven hits in the loss. Justin Kurlichick had two hits for Sluggers and R.J. Hooper added a double.
Roth Brothers 4, Livi Steel 2: Roth Brothers stayed in contention by slipping past Livi Steel behind the five-hit pitching of Bill Bowers and Justin Bolmgren.
Justin Crum had two RBIs and Jason Jablonski and Chris Boyes added one each for Roth Brothers (17-8). Mike Enyeart drove in both Livi runs with a double in the sixth.
Jordan Rogers had a double for Roth.
WW Heating 8, Fabulous Goldsteins 6: Back-to-back triples by Chris Russo and Mike Krieger in the bottom of the sixth inning produced a three-run rally and gave WW Heating the win.
Krieger was the winning pitcher, striking out seven while allowing nine hits.
Tom Zetts also had a triple for the winners and Sean Weyant added a double. Joe Toth and Rob Kay each doubled for Goldsteins.
Becdir 6, Rondinelli 4: Josh Starr knocked in two runs, while John Janco, Chuck Cormell and Steve Maiolo all had two hits to lead Becdir past Rondinelli.
Dean Polombaro, Bill Corbett and Mike Hanck all had two hits for Rondinelli, while Hanck drove in a pair of runs.
Class AA: Youngstown Metros swept a doubleheader from Pal Joey's in Class AA action at Pemberton Park.
In the first game, Metros pounded out 21 hits, including three each by Rick Gozur, Caleb Goist and Evan Agona for a 16-7 victory.
Aaron Massey had a home run for the winners, while Mike Grazier and Jim Putko homered for Pal Joey's.
In the second game, Metros scored twice in the first inning and it held up for a 2-1 victory.
Goist doubled in that first inning, while Joe Kocsis supplied the only run for Pal Joey's with a fifth-inning homer.
