PRAYER: George and his pastor, Donald Stevenson, pray with other members of the church in 2000 while Welker was being treated at University Hospitals in Cleveland. George first sought a transplant with lungs from someone who had died. As his health declined that year, he sought living donors, who gave him portions of their lungs in operations in Los Angeles.
