Northwest Pa. snowfall
ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- Residents along the Lake Erie shoreline were digging out from up to 20 inches of lake-effect snow Saturday with more forecast overnight. The storm had little effect beyond Erie and the shoreline towns north of Interstate 90. But the National Weather Service was forecasting 6-12 inches of snow overnight for inland Erie County -- that section south of the interstate -- and 4-8 more inches along the shoreline, meteorologist Frank Kieltyka said.
Residents in Union City, about 20 miles southeast of the city, reported only 2 inches of snow by 5 p.m. Less than an inch had fallen during the day in Meadville, about 35 miles south. State police in Erie reported no serious accidents as of 5 p.m., although Interstate 90 was described by a dispatcher as "horrible and slippery" with low visibility.
