GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP Campbell captures consolation game
The Red Devils defeated Beaver County Christian in the Union Tournament.
UNION, Pa. -- Sarah Toscano scored 11 points, and Tierra McIntosh added 10 with a career-high 26 rebounds as the Campbell High girls basketball team defeated Beaver County Christian 40-35 in the consolation game of the Union Boosters Holiday Tournament.
Sisters Abby and Kelly Moyer scored 13 points each for Beaver County Christian (6-4).
Toscano added six steals for the Red Devils (3-6), who broke a five-game losing streak.
The Red Devils led 13-9 after one quarter and 23-19 at the half. McIntosh scored six of her points in the first quarter.
In the third quarter, the Eagles managed just two points, hitting on just 1 of 12 shots from the field. Campbell pushed its lead to 31-21 after three quarters.
In the final period, Abby Moyer of Beaver County Christian scored eight points and Kelly Moyer five. Amanda Quinn scored six of her seven points in the last eight minutes for the Red Devils, who held on for the win.
McIntosh had half of the Devils' 52 rebounds. Kelly Moyer had eight of the Eagles' 35 caroms. Campbell suffered 34 turnovers to 26 for Beaver County Christian. Anna Zembillas had four assists for Campbell.
"Tierra [McIntosh] carried us. She controlled the boards," Campbell coach John Hritz said. "For a sophomore, she did an outstanding job."
Brookfield tournament: BROOKFIELD -- The Howland and Sharon high school girls basketball teams will play for the Brookfield tournament championship tonight at 7:30.
Howland defeated Farrell 86-36 Friday, while Sharon advanced with a 53-35 victory over Brookfield.
Brookfield and Farrell will play in the consolation game at 6 p.m.
Marianne Krezeczowski scored 22 points to pace Howland, while Lena Elerby had 16 for Farrell.
Sharon was led by Julie Bell's 21 points, while Holly Demay had 17 points for Brookfield.
Mineral Ridge 51, Woodrow Wilson 29: MINERAL RIDGE -- Dariana Casado tossed in 16 points, while Danielle Bako added 10 to lead Mineral Ridge (5-2).
Carrie Wilson contributed eight rebounds and four points to aid the Rams, who barged to a 25-8 halftime cushion.
Leslie Norwood and Ashley Moore each scored nine points for Wilson.
Southington 50, McDonald 35: MCDONALD -- Rebecca Derr registered 28 points to power Southington (4-4), which outscored McDonald by 17-3 in the second period to build a 31-15 halftime command.
Manny Prater scored 18 points to pace McDonald (1-7).
