UNION, Pa. -- The Campbell High boys basketball team put six players in double figures and showed a dominating inside game in defeating Beaver County Christian 86-39 in the consolation game of the Union Boosters Holiday Tournament on Friday.
Mike Hardin scored 13 points to lead the way for the Red Devils (3-6). He was joined by Terrell Harris with 12 points, Robert Armstrong with 11 and Anthony Wright, James Tolbert and Chris Melnik with 10 each for Campbell.
The Eagles (4-8) were paced by Marvis Brogden with 10 points and four blocks.
Early lead: Campbell moved out to a 20-6 first quarter lead as Armstrong scored eight points in the quarter, including two dunks. Beaver County Christian managed to outscore the Devils 18-17 in the second quarter, which was paced by six points each by Brogden and HP McCracken. Campbell led 37-24 at the break.
The Red Devils outscored the Eagles 24-4 in the third period as Campbell scored on eight field goals and as many charity tosses. Beaver County Christian managed only two field goals in the period.
During the last quarter, 10 different Campbell players scored as the Red Devils outscored the Eagles 25-11.
Campbell won the battle of the boards 59-31. Armstrong had 11 rebounds and Wright 10, giving the senior back-to-back double-doubles in the tourney (14 points and 13 rebounds on Wednesday).
First time: In his first start at point guard, sophomore Melnik had six steals and added four assists, while Harris also had six steals. Tolbert, also a sophomore, scored 18 points in two games in the tournament.
"That was the most unselfish we played all year," Campbell coach Bob Fick said. "We passed the ball well and got everyone involved in the game. The seniors really played well tonight."
Campbell suffered 21 turnovers but forced 31 Beaver County Christian errors. Four Beaver County Christian players fouled out, while Campbell lost one player on fouls. There were 28 fouls called on the Red Devils and 34 on the Eagles.
