YOUNGSTOWN -- Campus police at Youngstown State University discovered during a traffic stop Sunday night that a passenger in the car had a murder warrant out for her arrest. Sabrina Bray, 22, of Park Avenue, is accused of killing Alison Bruckner, 29, of Youngstown, found April 5 by a passer-by in a field on Cloister Avenue near Augustine Avenue on the East Side. She was shot in the chest. Campus police stopped the car at Arlington and North avenue about 9 p.m. Bray was indicted Nov. 29 and was due for arraignment Dec. 11 in common pleas court.
Robbery in Girard
GIRARD -- Police are investigating a robbery early today at a South State Street convenience store. An employee told police a man with a knife came into Shell Foodmart about 3 a.m. He ordered employees to get behind the counter and demanded money and cigarettes. He then ordered employees to the floor and cut the telephone cord as he fled. The suspect is described as being in his early 20s and about 5-feet, 10-inches tall. He wore a stocking cap and a bandanna over his face.
A & amp;W robbery
BOARDMAN -- Township police are investigating a robbery at the A & amp;W Restaurant on Boardman-Canfield Road just before 1 a.m. Sunday. Employees told police that as they were leaving the building a man with a gun walked up and ordered them back into the building. The man, who was wearing a black ski mask and black jacket, told them to get on their knees, and taped their hands behind their backs. The robber took the store keys and locked the employees in the refrigerator. The employees said they emerged 10 minutes later and found one of their cars missing from the parking lot. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
Drug arrests made
BOARDMAN -- Separate traffic stops for expired license plates resulted in drug arrests. Township police say they pulled a 52-year-old Youngstown man over on South Avenue at 5 p.m. Friday and found a crack pipe inside his 1981 Ford pickup truck. Officers later patted the man down and found a white pill, a narcotic painkiller, police said. He faces charges of drug paraphernalia and drug possession. At 11:30 p.m. Friday, police said, they pulled over a 32-year-old Boardman man in a 1991 Dodge Caravan on Shields Road and found two packets of suspected crack cocaine. The man faces charges of drug abuse, possession of crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension.
Shopper must pay
BOARDMAN -- A man shopping recently at the Southern Park Mall has agreed to pay for about 25 feet of damaged carpet after he ran dripping wet through the mall while being chased by mall security, police said. The man told police that he was standing near a display hot tub filled with water, talking to friends, when one of his friends pushed him into the hot tub. The man got out and ran through the mall, police said. Mall security estimated the damage at $200.
Fire damage
YOUNGSTOWN -- A fire that caused about $35,000 worth of damage at J.D. Byrider, 775 N. Meridian Road, remains under investigation. The fire started about 6 p.m. Saturday in the maintenance area of the one-story building used for vehicle repairs and the paint shop. The used-car rental business had no smoke detectors or sprinklers, a fire department report says.
Road closings in park
YOUNGSTOWN -- Effective today in Mill Creek Park, Calvary Run Drive from Milton Avenue to Belle Vista Avenue; Chestnut Hill Drive from Scholl Recreation Area to Canfield Road; and High Drive from West Cohasset Drive to Scholl Recreation Area will be closed to vehicles for the winter.
They will reopen to traffic in the spring.
