They got it their way. Hermitage commissioners gave their approval last week to interior and exterior renovations and the addition of a playground at the Burger King restaurant at East State Street and Buhl Farm Drive. Hospice volunteers: Sharon Regional Health System's Hospice Program is looking for some volunteers interested in providing patient care, bereavement support and office work. Hospice assists patients with a limited life expectancy and their families so the patients can remain in their homes rather than be hospitalized.
The next Hospice training program begins Jan. 22 and will meet every Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through Feb. 26 at the Home Health/Hospice office at Highland Road and North Kerrwood Drive, Hermitage. Volunteers can be of any age and background. They can provide patients with company, run errands, become a listener to the patient's caregiver or work with families after a death. Those interested should contact the Hospice office at (724) 983-5935 by Jan. 4 to register for the class.
Health supplies needed: The Medical Equipment Recycling Program of the UPMC Health System Foundation has a need for shower chairs, extended tub benches and wide wheelchairs. The program refurbishes used medical equipment and gives it to those who lack the insurance coverage or money to buy the equipment they need. To arrange a donation, call the program office at (724) 347-3605.
