Struthers High seniorgets National Merit honor
STRUTHERS -- Lucas Moore, a Struthers High School senior, was recently named a National Merit Semifinalist by the National Merit Corp. Moore attended Dakar Academy in Senegal, West Africa, for the past three years before coming to Struthers. He is the son of Jonathan, a missionary pastor, and Paulette Moore.
While in West Africa, Moore worked in the consulate section of the American Embassy as a translator. He also volunteered there, helping to feed hungry children and helping with building projects. He lettered in football and cross country this fall at Struthers and was inducted into the National Honor Society.
Alan Keyes to speakat Respect Life service
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Alan Keyes, former presidential candidate and ambassador to the United Nations, speaks Jan. 17 in Metheny Fieldhouse at Geneva College. He is the keynote speaker for the 14th annual Respect Life Memorial Service. The program is free but seating is limited. Tickets are available at the college's public relations office, (724) 847-6521.
Keyes was the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Economic and Social Council from 1983 to 1985. He also was assistant secretary of state for international organization affairs for three years under President Reagan.
Christian Academydedicates front porch
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Christian Academy recently dedicated the replacement of the front porch to the school building, which was funded by the Scotford Foundation of Youngstown. The school, founded in 1975, is on the corner of Wychwood Lane and Southern Boulevard.
Ursuline student wentto leadership gathering
YOUNGSTOWN -- Keith Coleman, an Ursuline High School senior, attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., in December. The program is for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit. Coleman, a member of the National Honor Society and Students of Stewardship, was among 350 high school students from across the nation to attend the conference.
