Woman pleads innocent to mail fraud

YOUNGSTOWN -- A 39-year-old Youngstown woman pleaded innocent today in U.S. District Court to three counts of mail fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud.
A federal indictment unsealed earlier this month accuses Renee Smith of fraudently using her Tone Crack Seal & amp; supply company to obtain minority paving contracts and then passing them on to a contractor.
Carl J. King, Smith's attorney, declined to comment today on the case after Smith's arraignment in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge George J. Limbert.
Smith is free on $20,000 unsecured bond. Her case was referred to Judge Lesley Brooks Wells of the U.S. District Court, who also is overseeing Traficant's racketeering and bribery case.
