Woman faces charges in identity theft

`SHARON, Pa. -- Police said an East Connelly Boulevard woman is accused of stealing an acquaintance's identity and running up thousands of dollars in credit-card charges before an insurance investigator uncovered her scheme.
Clarice I. McKoy, 47, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of insurance fraud, forgery, access device fraud, identity theft and theft by deception. She was freed on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
Police said McKoy is accused of using the victim's name, Social Security number and birth date to open several credit card accounts in late summer.
She ran up several thousand dollars worth of bills and took out a disability insurance policy that would cover those accounts should she be unable to work, police said.
McKoy then filed a disability claim with the insurance company, which began to pay some of the credit card bills.
But an insurance adjuster contacted the victim to inquire about her disability, and it was at that point the scheme unraveled, police said, adding that the victim knew nothing of McKoy's scam.
