PREP ROUNDUP Mooney rallies past Tigers, 63-37



YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mooney High girls basketball team fell behind 12-7 in the first quarter, but the Cardinals bounced back to beat Springfield 63-37 Thursday.
The Cardinals broke the game open with a 23-7 surge in the second quarter.
Lori Patrone sparked Mooney (5-3) with 15 points. Aieshya Dixon added 11 and Megan Maloney and Anastasia Vouvalis finished with 10 apiece.
Dixon pulled down 14 of Mooney's 39 rebounds and Patrone had five assists and five steals.
Talley Felger was the only Springfield player in double figures with 13 points. Lindsay Johnson grabbed 10 of the Tigers' 34 rebounds and Jessica Snyder had four assists.
Lowellville 54, Columbiana 53: COLUMBIANA -- The Rockets (4-2) trailed up until the last 30 seconds when freshman Amanda Nero made a basket to put her team ahead 52-51.
She then added a pair of free throws at 10 seconds. The Clippers sank a basket at the buzzer.
Nero, who scored 29 points in her last outing, led the Rockets with 22. Her sister Tami chipped in with 16.
Danielle Hvisdak grabbed seven of Lowellville's 33 rebounds, while Katie Travaline had six steals.
Carly Washinko paced the Clippers (3-3) with 10 points and she pulled down 11 of her team's 35 rebounds. Stevie Goist chipped in with 18 points.
United 45, Western Reserve 25: HANOVERTON -- Michelle Foster triggered unbeaten United (7-0) with 10 points.
The Golden Eagles limited the Blue Devils to five points in the second quarter and two in the third to build a commanding 43-19 margin.
Anna Marie Ricciardi paced Western Reserve with a game-high 12 points.
Leetonia 51, Wellsville 43: LEETONIA -- Bri Duko fired in 16 points and Jessica Deville added 15 for the Bears. Deville grabbed 12 of 34 rebounds and she had four steals.
Lindsey Lyle led Wellsville (2-5) with 11 points.
Warren JFK 52, Lisbon 36: WARREN -- The Warren JFK defense held Lisbon to five points in the first quarter, five in the second and eight in the third while building a 36-18 lead.
Sarah McNeil paced the Eagles (5-3) with 20 points and she had four steals, six assists and eight rebounds.
Tina Huckshold led the Blue Devils with 16 points and five assists.
Boys: NORTH BLOOMFIELD -- Cody Troyer had a 21-point, 10-rebound game as Bloomfield turned back Ledgemont 61-37.
Kevin Bryant added 12 points and Chad Shipman and Steve Troyer each had 10 points for the Cardinals.
Bryan Wilcott led the way for Ledgemont (1-5) with 12 points.
Compass Education Center 62, Heartland Christian 19: COLUMBIANA -- Dennis Johnson and Jamar Scales evenly split 40 points for Compass.
Compass jumped out to a 16-4 lead after one quarter and increased it to 33-11 at the break.
Chad Hall scored nine points for Heartland.
