Police car crashes during chase

HUBBARD -- A city police car was severely damaged during a Thursday police chase.
Police Chief Ray Moffitt said the Ohio State Highway Patrol initiated a chase because a car driven by Stephen Shay, 33, of Ridge Avenue, Sharpsville, Pa., was speeding and weaving.
According to a police report, Shay drove his car into the city on North Main Street about 11 a.m. and to West Liberty Street and Rebecca Avenue. While attempting to stop Shay, a cruiser driven by city Patrol Officer William Fisher went off the roadway and struck a telephone pole.
Fisher was released after treatment at Northside Medical Center.
Charges: Shay is charged with two counts of felonious assault and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing and eluding, driving under suspension and reckless operations. He has two outstanding warrants charging him with speeding in Youngstown and Campbell, according to reports.
