MERCER Woman gets jail for DUI crash



The judge also sentenced a man for causing thousands of dollars in damage to Reynolds High School property.

MERCER -- A New Castle woman will do jail time for causing a traffic accident that injured five people.
Judge Michael Wherry of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced Jean Yates, 32, of Highland Avenue, to 15 days to two years in jail and fined her $300 for driving under the influence of a controlled substance for a Dec. 27, 2000, accident on Maple Drive in Hermitage.
Yates crossed the center line and struck a van carrying several mentally retarded clients and employees of the Verland Foundation.
The judge also sentenced her to a consecutive 48-day to two-year term and fined her an additional $300 for driving under the influence Nov. 14, 2000, on state Route 19, Perry Township. She was arrested by police responding to a call that she was driving erratically.
Intimidation: Edward Tunstall, 19, of Brentwood Drive, Greenville, was sentenced to one to two months in jail and two years' probation for ethnic intimidation, and five years' probation for criminal mischief, both misdemeanors.
The terms were ordered served consecutively and he was ordered to make restitution. In April, he and two juveniles spray-painted obscenities and the letters "KKK" at Reynolds High School in Greenville, damaging the press box, restrooms and two concession stands.
They also kicked out the windows of a school van and spray-painted it. Damage amounted to $2,670.
Other cases: The judge also sentenced these people:
U Scott Fisher, 34, of South Main Street, Greenville, to 30 to 60 days in jail for recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor. On July 6, he fired a .22-caliber pistol at a woman in his home, contending he mistook her for an intruder. She was not injured.
U Mark Gentsy, 20, of Center Church Road, New Castle, five years' probation for theft by deception, a misdemeanor. He pleaded guilty to falsifying merchandise return receipts, then pocketing the cash in March and April at the Old Country Store and Feed Mill on state Route 158, Wilmington Township, where he was employed. Additional charges are pending against him in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.
U Nathan Greene, 21, of Baldwin Avenue, Sharon, was placed on three years' probation and ordered to make restitution for theft from motor vehicles, a misdemeanor, for stealing items from several cars along Logan Avenue and B Street in Sharon in June. He also was ordered to undergo drug and alcohol counseling.
U Josh Kristyak, 19, of Hadley Road, Hadley, was sentenced to 30 days' house arrest followed by 10 months' probation for possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. While at Commodore Perry High School in Perry Township in May, Kristyak, a student there, was found in possession of a scale commonly used for weighing and packing marijuana.
U Joe Lemons Jr., 23, of Meek Street, Sharon, was placed on two consecutive terms of five years' probation for two counts of corruption of a minor, both misdemeanors, for having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl in August or September 2000. The offenses took place at Sharon residences. Lemons claimed the victim said she was 20. He was given credit for 90 days served in jail.
U William Waldo, 28, formerly of Waugh Avenue, Greenville, and now of the Mercer County Jail, was placed on 10 years' probation and given credit for 143 days already served for criminal trespass, a felony, for entering a building on South Second Street, Greenville, on July 28.
