Man shot while in car
YOUNGSTOWN -- Brandon T. Jackson, 22, of Stiles Avenue was in critical condition today in St. Elizabeth Health Center with two gunshot wounds to the back. Police found his bullet-riddled 1994 Dodge Intrepid parked on the hospital's emergency ramp about 9:20 p.m. Thursday. The rear windshield, passenger side front window and driver's side rear window had been shot out. The vehicle has bullet holes in the left rear door, roof, trunk, right side front, rear seats and right front headrest.
Police were unable to talk to Jackson, but a trauma nurse related what he told her, that someone inside a 2000 or newer sport-utility vehicle opened fire as he drove on East Boston Avenue near Shirley Road. Jackson told the nurse that about 10 shots had been fired.

A $192,000 contract for electrical work was awarded to Hotrod Electrical Contracting of Warren. Muscular dystrophy fund
LIBERTY -- Eastern Ohio Muscular Dystrophy Association raised $40,000 in donations during a two-day fund drive. The agency picked up 95 area "jailbirds" Tuesday and Wednesday and took them to the Liberty Township Administration Building, where each had to raise $1,500 "bail" to get released. Diane Costlow, Youngstown district secretary for the agency, said the $40,000 is twice as much as last year's one-day collection.
