Valley campaign raises$12,000 for safe kids
YOUNGSTOWN -- A fund-raising campaign last week to benefit the Mahoning Valley Safe Kids Coalition raised more than $12,000.
The money will be used to buy child safety seats for families who cannot afford them.
Lt. Brian Girts of the Canfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Lt. Gerry Thompson of the Warren post stood atop billboards in Boardman and Niles respectively for 12 hours Friday gathering pledges from passersby. They raised enough to buy at least 240 safety seats. In addition to the money, 14 new child safety seats were donated.
