City council handled these items Wednesday:
Sent a resolution to the finance committee that expresses council's intent to withdraw from the agreement between the city and the Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp., the city's downtown redevelopment agency.
Expressed its support for the Mahoning River Consortium and urged the board of control to contribute $13,000 as the city's share of a feasibility study.
Approved a budget for the first quarter of 2002; the budget is one-quarter of the 2001 budget. A full-year budget is to be approved by the end of March.
Authorized the board of control to contract with a law firm to defend the city in a school board lawsuit against Corrections Corporation of America; the city is one of the defendants.
Authorized the board of control to advertise and award a contract to buy a new heavy-duty rescue pumper for the fire department not to exceed $290,000. A federal grant will pay $203,000. Selling the old truck should bring an additional $50,000 or more. The city must pay the rest.
Authorized the board of control to contract with a firm to do a three-phase financial review of agencies that get the city's federal funds.
Objected to the liquor permit renewal of Smokey Joe's at 2722 Market St., which has been shut down for being a nuisance business.
Approved changes to a series of 24 ordinances concerning administrative rules and regulations. The changes include updating dates, job titles and pay rates to reflect new union contracts, and clarifying language and fixing typos.
