TAC Hubbard's Smiths pummel Liberty



The Eagles scored the final six points in a 60-54 victory.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Anthony Smith connected for 24 points and Matt Smith added 18 as the Hubbard High basketball team rallied late in the fourth quarter to trim Liberty 60-54 Tuesday in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
With 2 minutes, 22 seconds remaining, Liberty's Steve Patterson, made a basket off a steal, then tossed in a free throw to tie it at 50.
Jason Lenzi scored for Hubbard (3-2, 2-1), but the Leopards' Joel Marshall tossed in two free throws to tie it again at 52.
Matt Smith connected on two free throws to put the Eagles back in front 54-52 and Bradley Fletcher of Liberty (2-4, 2-1) made a basket to tie it for the last time at 54.
Anthony Smith tossed in one-of-two free throws to give the Eagles the lead for keeps at 55-54 with 33 seconds left.
Matt Smith made one-of-two shots for the Eagles to make it 56-54 and he connected on two more at the 12 second mark. At the buzzer, Anthony Smith made a dunk.
Marshall sparked the Leopards with 15 points. Fletcher added 13.
Hubbard had a 35-28 board advantage, with Anthony Smith grabbing 11 rebounds. Jeff Schnall pulled down eight rebounds for the Leopards.
