Girard 7-0 after 36-20 win



Newton Falls tripped Lakeview and Canfield beat Fitch.
GIRARD -- Tealle Hunkus and Stephanie Scarnecchia each scored 12 points Monday to lead the undefeated Girard High girls basketball team to a 36-20 victory over Champion.
The 7-0 Indians remain the Trumbull Athletic Conference leaders with a 5-0 league mark.
Cachet Murray scored nine for the Indians.
Lauren Seafert's six points led Champion (3-4, 2-2).
Newton Falls 36, Lakeview 24: NEWTON FALLS -- The Tigers (6-1, 4-1 TAC) limited the Bulldogs to four points in the second period and four more in the third for a 27-15 margin.
Desiree Sterling took scoring honors for Newton Falls with 19 points and she grabbed eight of her teams 27 rebounds.
Megan McBride sparked the Bulldogs with 10 points.
Canfield 54, Fitch 45: CANFIELD -- The Cardinals jumped out to a 18-12 lead and were aided by the Falcons' 32 turnovers.
Erin Martin sparked Canfield with 21 points. Teammates Jill Vertanen and Nicole Vlajkovich chipped in with 12 and 11, respectively.
The Falcons were led by Kim Buhro with 16 points.
Mooney 60, Campbell 44: Junior Aieshya Dixon scored 19 points and senior Lori Patrone added 14 for Mooney (4-3). Megan Maloney scored 12 for the Cardinals.
For Campbell (2-5), Amanda Quinn scored 15 points and Tierra McIntosh 11.
Struthers 32, Liberty 29: YOUNGSTOWN -- The Wildcats' defense held Liberty to six points in the first and second quarters as Struthers opened up a 19-12 lead.
Laura Bell paced the Wildcats with 11 points.
Jennifer Cann led the Leopards with eight.
Mineral Ridge 47, Southington 32: SOUTHINGTON -- Deriana Casado fired in 19 points for the Rams (4-3) while Sara Gerberry pulled down eight of her team's 23 rebounds.
Rebecca Derr sparked the Wildcats (2-4) with 13 points and she grabbed 12 of her team's 34 rebounds.
Bristol 55, McDonald 36: McDONALD -- The Panthers (3-2) scored 20 points in the second quarter to stretch a 14-6 advantage into a 34-12 margin at the break.
Amanda Prater had 12 points and Christine Holmes had 11 for the Blue Devils (1-6).
Warren JFK 50, Sebring 22: WARREN -- Warren JFK (4-3) built a commanding 27-10 lead by halftime and Sebring never recovered.
The Eagles put 10 players in the scoring column with Sarah McNeil leading the way with 14 points.
Morgan Morris and Kim Brunie each scored nine points for the Trojans (3-5).
Lisbon 43, Wellsville 27: WELLSVILLE -- Tina Huckshold poured in 17 points and pulled in nine rebounds for the Blue Devils (4-1).
Lisbon had more field goals, 16-9, and got points from eight players.
Jessica Dineh scored nine points for the Tigers.
East Palestine 43, Beaver Local 29: EAST PALESTINE -- Junior forward Abbey Gorby scored eight of her season-high 16 points in the third quarter when the Bulldogs rebounded from a 19-13 deficit to take a 31-23 lead into the final eight minutes.
Gorby also had five steals in the third quarter for East Palestine (4-3).
Ashley Martin added 13 points and seven rebounds while Sam McCay had five assists for the winners.
Rachel McCoy hit for 15 points for the Beavers (1-5).
