COLUMBIANA COUNTY Ex-officer indicted, man awaits sentencing in child-sex cases

A 9-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were victims in the cases, authorities said.
LISBON -- One area man awaits sentencing in February for raping a child and, in an unrelated case, a former police officer has been accused of sexual conduct with a girl.
Donald Guy, 44, of West Salem Street, Columbiana, is to be sentenced Feb. 25 in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court on two counts of rape.
A jury recently found Guy guilty of raping the boy during the summer of 1999 while the boy was 9. Guy raped the same boy in the spring of 2000, the jury concluded.
The assaults occurred at Guy's apartment. Guy knew the boy.
He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years for each offense, assistant county Prosecutor Tim McNicol said Monday.
Other case: James Manley, 39, of Monroeville Heights, Salineville, a former Wellsville police officer, was recently indicted by a county grand jury on charges of gross sexual imposition and sexual imposition.
Authorities say Manley engaged in sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl he knew beginning in 1995 and continuing through the spring of 2000.
The episodes did not occur while Manley was on duty, McNicol said.
It's unclear why Manley is no longer with the Wellsville Police Department or when he left the force.
Gross sexual imposition is a third degree felony bearing a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
Sexual imposition is a third-degree misdemeanor, carrying a two-month maximum jail sentence.
