WARREN -- "I love our fans. I'm glad they had our backs," said Cleveland Browns defensive back Anthony Henry a day after Sunday's controversial 15-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After many fans tossed plastic bottles and other debris at players and officials at Cleveland Browns Stadium, Henry spoke at an appearance sponsored by the Ohio Browns Boosters at the Ground Round restaurant on Elm Road.
Henry, who leads the NFL with nine interceptions, said the melee was an unfortunate incident and that he and the Browns have to put it behind them.
"It's too bad that we had that kind of outcome," Henry said. "Now we have to look forward to next weekend and put that behind us.
"The fans were behind us 100 percent," Henry said. "That's the kind of Cleveland Browns fans we want behind us."
As for the controversial replay ruling, Henry said, "Calls are made, it's part of the game."
No surprise: Henry said he wasn't surprised by the reaction by Browns fans following the reversal of a call on the field that would have given the Browns a first down around the 9 yard line with 48 seconds remaining in the game.
"In this game, things are going to happen," Henry said. "That's the way it is in the world of sports. But we have to move on and I look forward to making things happen in the future for the city of Cleveland."
AFC rookie candidate: Henry is a candidate for the AFC rookie of the year after being drafted in the fourth round from the University of Southern Mississippi.
His ninth interception Sunday was returned 97 yards for a score that enabled the Browns to get back into the contest and set the stage for the final minutes.
The theft also broke the Cleveland and NFL interception record for rookies set by Bobby Franklin in 1960.
Tony Divincenso, Ohio Browns Boosters vice-president, said that his organization is one of the largest Browns Backers clubs in the nation and has had the most appearances by Browns players.
Monday's overflow crowd at the Ground Round was the group's largest as the Boosters were holding their annual Christmas party that benefited the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign.
