BOARDMAN A sweet gift for police and firemen

The fire department captain said support has reached new heights.
BOARDMAN -- The spirit of giving and a special thanks to emergency workers from budding members of the community came in the form of homemade cookies.
The 5- and 6-year-old members of the Daisies Girl Scout Troop delivered freshly baked cookies Monday to fire and police department employees. The cookies were made with the little hands of all 13 troop members.
The girls also made cards for both departments to accompany the cookies. Girl scout co-leader Jennifer Kuczek said the girls decided cookies and cards would be the best -- and certainly most delicious -- way to say thanks to emergency personnel.
"The girls decided to do this as a way to say happy holidays to our heroes and thanks for protecting us," she said. "We figured, who wouldn't like cookies?"
Support: Capt. Pat Romeo of the Boardman Fire Department, said community support, especially around the holidays, is always high, but has reached new heights in recent months.
"We have always been accepted by the community, and around the holidays we always see an increased amount of support and appreciation from the community," said Romeo. "Since September 11 we have seen even more signs of support from the community. I don't know that it could get much better."
Kuczek said the Daisies is the first step in the girl scout ranks.
