LISBON -- Barbara Smith, a Lisbon native and professor of nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing, is overseeing a $1.4 million study funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research. The study will examine the effects of diet and exercise on lipodystrophy, a common side effect of HIV drug therapies. Smith is a graduate of David Anderson High School in Lisbon and St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Youngstown. She has bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from Case Western Reserve University and earned her doctorate in exercise physiology at Ohio State University. Smith served as faculty member for 11 years with OSU's College of Nursing and the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation before joining the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
POLAND -- Mandie Hiznay of Hiznay & amp; Associates, Creative Financial Consultants, has completed requirements to be certified as a member of the 2001 Million Dollar Round Table. The Round Table is an independent, international association of top life insurance professionals. Hiznay represents Ohio National Financial Services.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Eileen Schultz and Mattie Bondi of Callos Companies Services have earned the Certified Temporary Staffing Specialist designation from the National Association of Personnel Services. Schultz, benefits administrator for Callos, is a Liberty resident. She studied business at Youngstown State University and joined the company in 1992, serving as a recruiter before assuming her current position. Bondi, Warren office manager, has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Youngstown State University. A Poland resident, she joined the company in 1993.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Wendy's Restaurant chain recognized several local managers at an annual awards banquet for area employees last week. Sherry Mackey, manager of the Elm Road store in Warren, was named general manager of the year and Tina McGhee, assistant manager at the Austintown store, was named assistant manager of the year. The chain's People's Choice award went to Darren Krlich of the South Avenue store.
