Cancer prevention
CANFIELD -- Robert Antenucci, president of the Trumbull County American Cancer Society, and Dr. William Begalla, president of the Mahoning County ACS, urged people to talk to their doctors about appropriate cancer screenings and adopt healthier lifestyles that could lower the risk of getting cancer. The ACS estimates that 58,200 new cases of cancer in Ohio were diagnosed in 2001. Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the United States, but cancer deaths can often be prevented by early detection. Also, 50 percent of cancer incidence and 65 percent of cancer mortality could be prevented by lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet, moderate exercise and eliminating tobacco use, they said.
