NEW YORK -- Mark Messier and Mike York each scored a goal and had an assist as New York snapped a five-game losing streak. Mike Richter made 33 saves and had a shutout going until 6:11 remaining in the game. Messier gave New York a 3-0 lead at 17:08 of the second period when he took a cross ice pass from Mikael Samuelsson and wristed a shot off the right post past Mika Noronen for his sixth of the season and 1,800th NHL point. Messier became only the third NHL player to reach 1,800 points, behind Gordie Howe (1850) and Wayne Gretzky (2857).
Flyers 5, Bruins 2
BOSTON -- Paul Ranheim, Ruslan Fedotenko and Jeremy Roenick scored second-period goals to lift Philadelphia. Mark Recchi scored the Flyers' first goal, and Philadelphia broke open a tight game despite ongoing struggles on the power play. The Flyers went 0-for-4 with the man-advantage and are just 5-for-62 on the road. Brian Rolston scored a short-handed goal, and Don Sweeney had his first of the season for the Bruins.
Capitals 5, Thrashers 2
WASHINGTON -- Jaromir Jagr ended a scoring slump with two goals as Washington extended Atlanta's winless streak to seven games. Patrik Stefan scored twice for Atlanta, on an 0-5-2 skid. The points were his first in five games since spending five games in the minors. Peter Bondra tallied twice and Joe Reekie also scored for the Capitals, who are 8-3-3 in their last 14 games and 7-1-1 in their last nine at home.

OTTAWA -- Martin Brodeur recorded his first shutout of the season as Petr Sykora and Jason Arnott scored to lead New Jersey. Named to Canada's Olympic team earlier in the day, Brodeur stopped 39 shots for his 52nd career shutout, and first since Apr. 7 against Montreal. Sykora scored an unassisted goal on New Jersey's first shot nearly seven minutes in. He also assisted on Arnott's power-play goal 7:02 into the third, less than five minutes after Brodeur made a spectacular save to deny Ottawa the tying goal.
Maple Leafs 6, Canadiens 4
TORONTO -- Gary Roberts had two goals and an assist as Toronto extended its winning streak to five games. Former Canadien Shayne Corson added a goal and two assists for Toronto, which outshot Montreal 48-16. Darcy Tucker, Robert Reichel and Dmitry Yushkevich also scored for the Maple Leafs, who have won seven of eight and lead Eastern Conference with 45 points. Benoit Gratton, Stephane Quintal, Richard Zednik, and Mike Ribeiro scored for the Canadiens, who had their four-game unbeaten streak snapped.
Panthers 3, Islanders 1
UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Roberto Luongo's 36 saves helped Florida beat the slumping New York Islanders 3-1 on Saturday night, giving the Panthers their third win in five games since Mike Keenan took over as coach. Kristian Huselius, Niklas Hagman and Pavel Bure scored for Florida, which won consecutive games for the first time this season.
Blues 4, Flames 0
ST. LOUIS -- Keith Tkachuk scored two goals and goaltender Brent Johnson faced just nine shots. Chris Pronger and Dallas Drake also scored for the Blues, who scored a pair of power-play goals. St. Louis had scored just three goals on its last 23 power plays entering the game. Calgary's nine shots were a season low.
Predators 5, Blackhawks 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Nashville's Petr Tenkrat had his first career three-goal game -- including two in 27 seconds. Tenkrat's first goal gave the Predators a 3-1 lead at 13:44 of the second period.
