First sermons set
YOUNGSTOWN -- Three ministers will preach their first sermons at Union Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Dec. 23.
They are Rosetta Carter, Myrtis Rae Thornton and James Bowie.
Kim Burrell to perform
FARRELL, Pa. -- Triumph Christian Center Church will bring Gospel singer Kim Burrell and musician David Ivey to the Shenango Valley Dec. 29 at Farrell High School.
Burrell is a winner of the Stellar award. Ivey, formerly of Fred Hammond and Radical For Christ, was nominated for the Grammy, the NAACP Image, Stellar and Dove awards.
The doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the event starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $17 and are being sold through TicketMaster, at Kaufmann's and Giant Eagle locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com and by phone at (412) 323-1900. Triumph Christian Center Inc. is at 712 Union St., Farrell.
Musicians to perform
NORTH JACKSON -- Musicians Michael and Darla Yuricha from Judah Ministries will be ministering at Christ Is the Answer at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
They will be singing songs from her new CD, "Trust in Me."
Christmas cantata
BOARDMAN -- A Christmas program will be presented at 7 p.m. today and Sunday at Trinity Fellowship. An offering will be taken.
Bell cantata
BRISTOLVILLE -- Bristolville United Methodist Church will present the Christmas cantata "Jingle Bells" at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The story tells of bells that come together to ring in the Christmas service.
Church events
YOUNGSTOWN -- The senior choir of Smith Corners United Methodist Church will present the cantata, "Light of the World" at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Refreshments will be served after the program.
The youth and junior choirs will present a Christmas musical, "The Unfriendly Beasts," at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 23.
Puppet ministry
YOUNGSTOWN -- Union Baptist Church School's annual Christmas celebration will feature the Everlasting Arms Puppet Ministry in "A Star is Born," at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Donated gloves will be accepted for children.
Christmas music
McDONALD -- Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church will sponsor an evening of lessons and carols at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16.
The members and choir of the Woodland Park United Methodist Church will join in. Refreshments will follow.
Live Nativity scene
CANFIELD -- Canfield United Methodist Church will present its annual live Nativity scene from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Sunday with youths from the church and animals.
Christian skate
Boardman -- The Skate Connection is offering a Christian music skate night from 7 to 9 Tuesday. Admission is free; skate rental is $2 or $3.
Program canceled
WARREN -- Christ Episcopal Church has canceled its annual festival of lessons and carols set for 7 p.m. Dec. 23. It would have been the 20th annual event.
Children's musical
YOUNGSTOWN -- High Pointe Assembly in Struthers will present a children's musical at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 23 at Heart Reach Ministries at 787 Wick Ave.
Day of prayer
McDONALD-- The Woodland Park United Methodist Church will have a Day of Prayer from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. There will be prayers for Christian unity, the nation and an end to the war. Prayer guides will be available.
