Paltrow, Wilson keeplips sealed on affair
LOS ANGELES -- A taboo relationship between a brother and his adopted sister keeps Gwyneth Paltrow and Luke Wilson from revealing their true feelings in "The Royal Tenenbaums." But desire for privacy keeps the real-life couple's lips zipped, reports USA Today.
"I'm sorry, but I don't talk about my personal life," Paltrow said at a party after the movie's LA premiere last week. "You just learn the hard way not to get into it."
For Paltrow, 29, the hard way involved her highly publicized breakups with Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck. Enter Wilson, 30, whom she met while making "Tenenbaums," a quirky comedy about the ultimate dysfunctional family that opens Dec. 28. At the premiere, Paltrow and Wilson each waltzed down the red carpet alone and entered the lavish bash separately as well.
Wilson, who dated Drew Barrymore for two years, was equally reticent when asked whether it's easier to make a movie with someone he really likes.
"Umm, I don't know. I wouldn't know how to answer that question. I'm not really talking about that stuff."
The couple managed to keep their budding relationship a secret during production as well. Some filmmakers cringe when stars fall for each other during shooting.
"Sometimes, if a couple gets together romantically on a movie, then they cannot be as in thrall to the director," said "Tenenbaums" producer Barry Mendel. "The most exciting thing going on in their life is that they're in love."
But "nobody sensed anything was going on until very late in the game," Mendel adds. "They were pretty private about it, and it never was confirmed until the wrap party last spring when they came together and hung out."
Will Smith took roleas Ali very seriously
NEW YORK -- How serious was Will Smith about getting into the mind-set of Muhammad Ali to play the boxer? So much so that he went without sex for a whole year, reports TV Guide Online.
"Will vowed to have no sex for the year he was training for 'Ali,'" said Smith's trainer, Darrell Foster. "Sex saps a fighter's energy and Ali always abstained through fight training. Will wanted to really live the role, experience it all."
Therefore, "to understand the sacrifices that Muhammad Ali went through to be the greatest boxer ever, Will decided he had to go through it all as a fighter -- the pain, sweat and tears, the dieting, abstaining from sex."
No wonder Smith claims training for the film turned him into a "sex machine" for his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Meanwhile, Smith and director Michael Mann each guaranteed $10 million to ensure "Ali" would turn out as they envisioned it, reports the New York Daily News.
"The movie was going to cost more than Sony executives wanted to spend," Mann says. "'Ali' was only made because Will and I put up our fees and became co-financiers and the completion guarantors of the picture."
