KSU honors rock star
KENT -- Rock star Joe Walsh will receive an honorary doctor of music degree at Kent State University's commencement Saturday. Walsh, who attended KSU from 1965 to 1967, is being honored for achievements in music and support for humanitarian and environmental causes.
KSU's commencement ceremonies will be conducted in two sessions Saturday, at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Walsh will be honored at the 10 a.m. ceremony. Jane Campbell, the first woman elected mayor of Cleveland, will speak at the 2:30 p.m. ceremony. Nearly 1,700 students will receive degrees.
Gift distribution
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Jericho Project is sponsoring a gift distribution for needy children. From 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, people may call one of two sites: Centenary United Methodist Church at (330) 744-5509 or Richard Brown Memorial United Methodist Church at (330) 743-5432 with information about their children.
Adults should bring proof of income and the children when they pick up the gifts at the church they called from 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 22.
