NORTH LIMA -- A 6-year-old boy who authorities say was abducted by his noncustodial mother during the summer and taken to New Zealand has been returned to his father in California.
Dr. Samer Y. Siouffi, of East Western Reserve Road, told Beaver Township police Aug. 7 that his ex-wife took his son, Joseph, from his home June 7 for a visitation and did not return him.
Police filed a felony charge of interference with custody against the mother and tracked her through several states and New Zealand.
When the mother returned the boy from New Zealand, Los Angeles police temporarily took her into custody to ensure the boy's safe return to his father, then released her.
The boy will be vacationing in California with Dr. Siouffi for a few days before returning here to be interviewed by Beaver Township police.
Pupil, 12, accused of threatening aide
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested a 12-year-old North Jackson pupil who attends the Adams Alternative Program school about noon Wednesday, accusing him of threatening to shoot a teacher's aide, Mahoning County Sheriff's Department reports show.
The aide, 29, said the pupil made the threat and punched a wall. As she escorted him to a disciplinary area, he hit a locker and threw the aide's right hand against a locker when she attempted to stop him, the aide told police.
The pupil said he was making the threat against another pupil, not the aide, reports say. He was charged with aggravated menacing and assault, both misdemeanors, and released to his father's custody.
Drug trafficking chargeagainst 17-year-old
BOARDMAN -- A 17-year-old Youngstown boy has been charged with drug trafficking after an arrest made earlier this week at a Southern Boulevard apartment.
Reports say officers had been investigating Michael A. Faiola of Lynn Street for several weeks before making an undercover cocaine purchase from the teen in October. A pickup order was issued and Faiola was arrested Monday.
Juvenile Justice Center officials would not say if Faiola is still at the facility. No arraignment date has been set.
Meeting on diabetes
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Diabetic Association will meet at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church, Wick Avenue. The speaker will be Dr. Lawrence Karlock from Austintown Podiatry Associates.

Arrested outside school
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested an 18-year-old North Side woman at The Rayen School on Benita Avenue at about 3 p.m. Wednesday after a fight. The woman is not a student at the North Side school.
While working at the school, city officers saw two students fighting outdoors. When one of the officers attempted to break up the fight, the 18-year-old entered.
She was charged with disorderly conduct in the vicinity of a school and trespassing on school property.
Drug charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police arrested a 35-year-old Columbiana man and a 39-year-old Girard man on the North Side and charged them with drug offenses.
Three officers said they observed the men leave a known drug house near the intersection of Wirt Street and Delaware Avenue.
When the men saw police, they ran toward vehicles parked in the driveway.
Police said they found a small bag of suspected crack cocaine and a glass crack pipe on the floorboard of the Girard man's car.
Officers said they found two glass crack pipes in the shirt pocket of the Columbiana man.
The Girard man was charged with drug abuse cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Columbiana man faces a drug paraphernalia charge.
CVS clerk arrested
YOUNGSTOWN -- A South Side woman who works as a clerk at the CVS Pharmacy on Market Street was arrested on a felony theft charge Wednesday after she admitted stealing $570 in October, city police reports show.
The woman, of East Auburndale Avenue, admitted the theft to CVS loss-prevention managers and to police officers.
