Authorities probe pipe bomb at GM

LORDSTOWN -- A pipe bomb exploded Wednesday night in a maintenance building near the General Motors Corp.'s assembly facility.
There were no injuries and damage was minimal, said Tom Mock, company spokesman.
The Youngstown Police Bomb Squad and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were called to investigate.
Mock said the bomb exploded about 8:30 p.m. in the building, which is about 100 yards north of the car assembly facility.
No one was in the maintenance building at the time, Mock explained, and the assembly line was not interrupted.
Mock said he was unaware of any problem at the complex that would prompt someone to plant a bomb.
Detective Sgt. Joseph DeMatteo of the Youngstown bomb squad said there was one explosion, and a search failed to turn up other explosives.
The ATF is also investigating the early September bombing of United Auto Workers Local 1112 Hall on Reuther Drive.
The blast damaged two windows and a door. There were no injuries there.
