Lordstown talks
LORDSTOWN -- The board of education was to meet at 4:30 p.m. today to vote on a new contract with its teachers.
Patrick Pollifrone, president of the Lordstown Teachers Association, said teachers ratified a new pact last Friday. Pollifrone and the district were not releasing the details.
If the LTA approves the agreement, it will then go before the state-appointed financial planning and supervision commission, which meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the high school. The oversight commission was appointed after the district was placed under a fiscal emergency.
Teachers have been working without a contract since Aug. 1, 2000.
In October 2000, the district's nonteaching staff approved a three-year agreement with no pay raises. They will, however, receive raises equal to any other union.

Jamur D. Brown, of Sixth Street, Campbell, entered the guilty pleas Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to three counts of aggravated robbery. Judge W. Wyatt McKay said Brown will be sentenced after a background check.
Chris Becker, an assistant prosecutor, said he plans to recommend that Brown serve nine years in prison.
Becker said Brown robbed an ice cream truck Sept. 4 and on that same day he also robbed a man who was at a pay telephone on Idlywild. Becker said Brown also robbed Shop Rite on North Park on Sept. 12.

The youngster was dressed in pajamas and a jacket but no shoes. He had been spending the night with his grandmother who lives on the 200 block of Roosevelt Avenue, which intersects with East State. After everyone was in bed, the boy got up and left the house to go toy shopping, police determined.
