WARREN -- Ecstasy, marijuana, OxyContin, cocaine: Read all about it.
The Trumbull County Drug Task Force has created a Web site to inform readers about numerous street drugs.
"We know that arresting someone for drugs is not going to end the use of illegal drugs," said Jeff Orr, a county deputy sheriff in charge of the drug task force. "We need to educate everyone -- parents, teachers, teen-agers -- about the dangers of drugs. Prevention and education are the key to stopping illegal drug use."
The Web sit can be accessed by going to www.erowid.org. The Web site began operating Sunday, officials said.
"We will have pictures of some of the more popular street drugs so parents will know what these drugs look like," Orr said. "We will also list the forms the drugs come in, what they can do and the side effects."
What's covered: Currently the Web site has information and pictures of the area's most popular street drugs -- Ecstasy, marijuana, OxyContin, cocaine, heroin, LSD, and Ketamine, a tranquilizer commonly used in veterinarian offices for large animals.
"This is a very informative Web site for people to access," said Sheriff Thomas Altiere. "We want to provide the public with the most up-to-date information we have."
Orr said he will post press releases on the Web site that will include drug arrests.
"Any activity we do that will be an interest to the public I will put on this site," Orr said.
He noted that the site will also allow people to provide confidential information to law enforcement agents.
"People will now be able to give us information and it will be strictly confidential," Orr said. "They will be able to give it to us without us knowing who they are."
