J-M wrestlerwins title
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Wrestler Jackson-Milton Angelo Catone won the heavyweight title in the Doug Dix Tournament Saturday.
Catone defeated Jason Dietrich of Mentor, pinning him in 2:50 as the Bluejays finished fourth out of 10 teams.
Three J-M wrestlers finished in second: Lee Keck (145) Mike Theodore (171) and Mike Matasic (215).
Three others finished in thirdL Kyle Kemble (103), Rob Miller (112) and Nick Dierkes (119).
Thiel teams splitwith La Roche
PITTSBURGH -- Despite 15 points from Kennedy Christian graduate Erik Hemsing, the Thiel College basketball team dropped a 95-81 decision to La Roche College Saturday.
Shane Manley of East Palestine scored 14 for the Tomcats (1-8).
In a women's game, Amanda Swanson scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Thiel to a 49-46 victory over La Roche.

Knicks brass meet
NEW YORK -- Don Chaney met with New York Knicks president Scott Layden, who tried to convince Chaney to continue coaching the team at least for the rest of the season.
Chaney, with a career NBA coaching record of 266-382, guided the Knicks to a 101-99 victory over the Indiana Pacers after Jeff Van Gundy's unexpected resignation.
Couples' birdieis winning margin
DANA POINT, Calif. -- Fred Couples made a 10-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole for the winning margin as he and Mark Calcavecchia won the PGA Tour portion of the $1.2 million Hyundai Team Matches.
They beat defending champions Tom Lehman and Duffy Waldorf 1-up.
In the Senior PGA Tour portion, Allen Doyle's 20-foot chip-in on the third hole of a playoff lifted him and Dana Quigley to a 1-up victory over Tom Watson and Andy North.
Lorie Kane and Janice Moodie needed only 14 holes to defeat Grace Park and Wendy Ward 5 and 4 in the LPGA Tour division.
Rice passes20,000 yards
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jerry Rice became the first NFL receiver to amass more than 20,000 yards receiving in his career during the Oakland Raiders' game against Kansas City.
Rice passed 20,000 yards on a 9-yard catch late in the second quarter. He later caught an 8-yard touchdown pass, giving him an NFL-record 195 TDs -- 184 on receptions.

HONOLULU -- Mbarak Hussein of Kenya captured the Honolulu Marathon for the second time, winning in the wind and rain in 2 hours, 15 minutes, 8 seconds.
Lyubov Morgunova led a 1-2-3 Russian sweep in successfully defending her women's title, finishing in 2:29:54.

Ernie Els creditssports psychologist
CAPE TOWN, South Africa -- Ernie Els, crediting a sports psychologist for his strong play, shot a 7-under-par 65 to win the $175,000 Vodacom Players Championship by a stroke in his home country.
Els had a four-round total of 15-under 273. U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen of South Africa shot a 72 on a windy day and shared second at 274 with Scotland's Alan McLean (72) and South Africa's Martin Maritz (67) and Trevor Immelman (67).
U.S. soccer teamfalls to South Korea
SEOGWIPO, South Korea -- The United States lost 1-0 to South Korea in a game between teams that will play in the same group in next year's World Cup.
The only goal came in the 23rd minute off a corner kick, and was headed in off the bar by defender Yoo Sang-chul after a low corner kick.

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Jason Lezak of the United States won the 50-meter freestyle and countryman Ed Moses captured the 200-meter breaststroke on the final night of a World Cup short-course swim meet.
Australia's Geoff Huegill, who broke the world short-course record in the 50-meter butterfly, almost bagged his second in the 100-meter, falling .22 of a second short.
Police captureremaining suspects
SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Police on Sunday captured the last two of six suspects they were seeking in the killing of Sir Peter Blake, the yachting champion from New Zealand who was shot to death in Brazil.
The suspects were detained on an island about 12 miles from Macapa, near the mouth of the Amazon where Blake's boat was moored when he was killed Wednesday night.
