NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A Girard, Ohio, man was in Lawrence County Jail this morning charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, accidents involving injury and misuse of automobile registration. Pennsylvania State Police said David Deramo, 30, of Dravis Road, Girard, was traveling south on Pa. Route 60 when his 1993 Chevrolet Beretta crashed into a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, also heading south, driven by MaryAnn Genareo, 39, of McCracken Road, New Castle. Police said the impact forced Genareo's vehicle off the road, where it landed on its roof at 3:38 p.m. Saturday. Deramo kept driving, but his car became disabled about a mile from the crash, police said. Deramo was arraigned before District Justice J.V. Lamb and jailed in lieu of $5,000 bond. Police said Genareo was treated at Jameson Hospital. Her passenger, Helene Rottuno, 79, of Reynolds Street, New Castle, was not hurt, they said.
Sex charges
SHARON, Pa. -- William A. Foore Sr., 35, of First Avenue was in Mercer County Jail today, charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault and aggravated indecent sexual assault. Police said Foore is accused of having numerous sexual contacts with a 15-year-old city girl in a home on First Avenue during August. The contacts resulted in the teen's pregnancy, police said. Bond was set at $25,000.
Resident escapes fire
SHEAKLEYVILLE, Pa. -- Authorities said a Salem Township man had to break a bedroom window to escape a fire that heavily damaged his trailer home.
James Shafer was sleeping when the fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, said Steve VanSickle, Sheakleyville fire chief.
Shafer ran to the home of a neighbor to call 911; Shafer's wife wasn't at home at the time, VanSickle said.
The fire did extensive damage to one end of the trailer and caused heavy smoke damage throughout the structure, he said.
An electrical overload to a clothes dryer was the cause of the fire, he said.
There were no injuries reported.
Teen held in shooting
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A 15-year-old boy faces charges in juvenile court after being accused of shooting a girl with a BB gun. Police said two 14-year-old girls were walking on Croton Avenue at 5:06 p.m. Wednesday when one was shot in the left arm. They told police that a passenger in a gray car shot at them. Police later located the 15-year-old boy and he faces charges of simple assault, harassment, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct. Two other juveniles in the car do not face charges, police said.
