SHOPPING TRIPS
Survey of travelers
A recent Travel Industry Association study shows 51 percent of all travelers say that shopping was a primary or secondary purpose of one or more of their trips taken last year.
Travelers who shop spend an average of $333 during their trips; 22 percent spend more than $500.
The survey disproves the old stereotype about souvenir bibelots. Shopping travelers most often spend money on clothes or shoes for themselves or others (77 percent).
The association estimates travelers spend approximately $37.3 billion in total on retail trade purchases a year.
