PULASKI, Pa. -- The Nashau Bridge in Pulaski Township will be closed from Tuesday to Friday for repairs. William Saunders of Taylor Engineering said the bridge is closed about every two years for regular maintenance work. It is located on Nashau Road, just off of Harbor Bridge Road.
Apartment fire
NEW CASTLE -- No injuries were reported at a one-alarm fire that broke out above Francine's Beauty Salon on 214 E. Long Ave. at about 8 a.m. Saturday, a city fire official said. Assistant Chief David Joseph said a mattress in an apartment above the salon ignited.
Tenants were in the process of moving out and no one was in the apartment at the time, he said. The salon owner was downstairs. Joseph said damage was estimated at roughly $5,000 and was contained to the apartment bedroom. Cause of the fire is unknown, he said. City police are investigating.
Rings reported stolen
ELLWOOD CITY -- A 39-year-old Ellwood man reported that his wife's engangement and wedding ring, valued at $1,300, were stolen from his 1996 Chevrolet Lumina while it was parked in the Beaver Avenue parking lot between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 3 a.m. Thursday, police reported.
Energy assistance
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Area Community Action Council is once again taking applications for the emergency Home Energy Assistance Program, which helps low-income households whose utilities have been terminated or are under threat of disconnection or who have less than a 10-day supply of bulk fuel. The program runs until March 31. Call (330) 480-9630 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on business days for an appointment. Applicants must report total household income for the past three months during the interview and bring to the interview copies of their gas and electric bills and, if disabled, proof of disability.
