AREA COLLEGES Wilmington upsets Mt. Union; Case loses to Grove City

WILMINGTON -- Tony Richards and Dan Vaughn each scored 16 points, but it wasn't enough as the Mount Union basketball team dropped a 67-63 decision Saturday to Wilmington.
Richards led the Raiders (6-1, 2-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) with 11 rebounds. Rob Paulauskas netted 15 points.
For the Quakers (1-4, 1-2), David Akbar scored 17 points.
Akbar also led in 3-pointers, hitting 3-of-4.
Wilmington stayed ahead of Mount Union (6-1, 2-1) the entire first half and led 34-30 at halftime.
Wilmington made 37 percent of its 3-pointers, compared to only 19 percent for Mount Union. The Quakers shot 47 percent from the field, compared with 37 percent by the Purple Raiders.
Wilmington's other players in double figures were Gregg Liggens and Adam Weber with 10 points each.
Mount Union led Wilmington in free throws, 90 percent to 57 percent.
Grove City 74, Case Western 55: CLEVELAND -- Canfield's Andy Vlajkovich scored 14 points to share the Grove City scoring lead with Tanner Prosser.
Pat Roberts contributed 10 as Grove City (5-2) outscored Case (3-4) 42-23 in the second half.
Westminster 82, Mount Aloysius 67: NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Junior center Greg Foster of Girard, an Ursuline High graduate had career highs in points (14) and rebounds (nine).
Senior forward Ryan Oman of Greenville also scored 14 points for the Titans (3-4).
Ryan Lestochi connected for 25 points and Bill Ferguson netted 13 points for Mount Aloysius (1-8).
Ohio Wesleyan 78, Hiram 57: DELAWARE, Ohio -- Travis Schwab shot 10-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-3 3-pointers, for 25 points.
Jason Dopoulos had 13 points and Seth Rhea added 10 points for the Battling Bishops (5-4, 2-1 North Coast Conference).
Ohio Wesleyan held Hiram to 6-of-24 shooting in the first half as they built a 45-21 halftime lead. The Terriers (1-6, 0-3 NCAC) shot 22-for-61 for the game.
Emeka Mbanefo came off the bench to lead Hiram with 11 points. Brian Cecil and David Mayle each had 10 for the Terriers.
Ohio Wesleyan outrebounded Hiram 48-36.
Wittenberg 72, Allegheny 66: MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Greg Rustad scored 27 points and Kevin Longley had eight points and 16 rebounds.
Rustad made five of the Tigers' seven 3-pointer and also had seven rebounds.
Wittenberg (6-1, 3-0 North Coast Conference) shot only 39 percent from the floor, but held Allegheny (5-3, 1-2) to 33 percent shooting.
Nick Catanzarito scored 13 points, Ryan Meerstein had 12 and Billy Dungee 11 for the Gators.
Baldwin-Wallace 87, Muskingum 79: BEREA -- Thad Davis scored 20 points and Shawn McCormick had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Baldwin-Wallace.
Davis shot 8-of-12 from the field and McCormick made 7-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-5 3-point attempts. Jon Carroll had 15 points, Craig Budziak had 13 and Jason Schefft added 12 for the Yellow Jackets (3-4, 1-2 in the Ohio Conference).
Baldwin-Wallace took a 66-50 lead off Carroll's jumper with 13:23 remaining.
Muskingum got back to within 81-79 with 1:24 left off a 3-pointer by Andy Connell, but the Yellow Jackets scored the last six points of the game off a jumper by Davis and freethrows by Carroll and Schefft.
Mike Moler led the Muskies with 32 points shooting 12-of-19 from the field, and made 4-of-8 3-pointers.
Women: WOOSTER -- Senior guard Robin Thayer of Salem, a graduate of South Range, netted 16 points to lead Westminster past Notre Dame College, 70-66.
Junior forward Teale Ganster of Leavittsburg, a LaBrae High graduate, scored five points for the Titans (3-5).
Wilmington 74, Mount Union 69: ALLIANCE -- Tara Rausch pumped in 22 points for undefeated Wilmington (7-0, 3-0 OAC).
Julie Cerimele of Boardman led the Purple Raiders (2-6, 1-2) with 19 points. Allie Graf of Poland scored 10.
Ohio Wesleyan 92, Hiram 58: HIRAM -- Terra Roane's 12 points weren't enough to prevent the Terriers' fifth-straight loss.
Gena Rose and Jamie Hanson each scored 10 points for the Terriers (1-5, 0-1 OAC).
Ohio Wesleyan improved to 4-4, 3-0.
Geneva 90, Roberts Weseylan 80: BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Truly Norman and Lindsey Barr each scored 19 points as the Golden Tornadoes improved to 5-4, 3-0 American Mideast Conference.
