Mooney-Ursuline,Boardman in routs
BOARDMAN -- Phillip Colucci had five goals and an assist to lead the Mooney-Ursuline High hockey club team to a 9-1 victory over Poland on Friday night at the Ice Zone.
Luke Johnston added two goals and four assists, while Joey Toth had a goal and four assists and Mark Stoner the other goal.
Also assisting on Mooney-Ursuline goals were Adam Sturm (two assists) and one each by Josh Hayat, Joel Tacsik and Eric Smith.
Anthony Sabatka made 15 saves for Mooney-Ursuline, whose freshman team recorded a 7-6 victory over Poland.
Tyler Miller had three goals and three assists as Boardman rolled over North Canton Hoover 8-0 in the nightcap. Josh Congelio added two goals, while Tim Cerimele, Brandon Spickler and Pat Rafeedie had one each.
Dishing out assists for the Spartans were Cerimele, Spickler, Gabe Manginelli, Bob Walla, Jeff Evans, Derek Allan and Bill Maloney.
Goalie Ben Natali made saves on all 12 shots in his first game of the season.
Northeast Ohio League standings through Friday are: Boardman (3-1), Hoover (2-2), Poland (2-3) and Mooney-Ursuline (1-2).

Cavaliers hireChuck Person
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday hired former NBA veteran Chuck Person as its associate head coach.
Cavaliers first-year coach John Lucas and general manager Jim Paxson made the announcement. Person has been assisting Lucas and his staff since training camp.
Person, brother of Cleveland guard Wesley Person, spent 14 years in the league and was the fourth overall pick by Indiana in the 1986 draft.
He spent six seasons with the Pacers and also played with Minnesota, San Antonio and Charlotte before retiring in 2000.
Pirates decide onminor league staff
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Pirates' top two minor league managers, Marty Brown at Triple-A Nashville and Dale Sveum at Double-A Altoona, will return in 2002.
Pete Mackanin, who managed Class A Hickory last season, moves up to Class A Lynchburg, while Tony Beasley was promoted from short-season Class A Williamsport to Hickory.
Curtis Wilkerson, a former Pirates infielder who managed at Lynchburg last season, will be a Nashville coach. Darold Knowles, the pitching coach at Nashville last season, also returns.
Sveum will have new coaches in Jay Loviglio and Bob Milacki, the pitching coach. Scott Little, formerly the hitting coach, will not return.
Jeff Livesay, a Nashville coach last season, will be a Lynchburg coach along with Blaine Beatty, who returns as pitching coach.
Hickory's coaches will be Greg Briley and pitching coach Scott Lovekamp, who was at Altoona last season.
The only unfilled spot is the manager at Williamsport. Scott Emerson and Ramon Sambo will be Williamsport's coaches.
Woody Huyke returns as the manager at rookie league Bradenton, as does coach Scott May. Tracy Sanders was added as a coach and Miguel Bonilla will be the pitching coach.

Arrests madein Blake slaying
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Police arrested seven men and said they were closing in on another suspect Friday in the slaying of Peter Blake, a yachting champion from New Zealand shot to death by pirates in the Amazon.
"The suspects claimed they fired in self-defense. They said they didn't know anyone famous was aboard and they weren't expecting any resistance," said Federal Police agent Jose Araujo, speaking by phone from Macapa, in Amapa state 1,800 miles northwest of Rio de Janeiro.
He said masked pirates boarded Blake's yacht at its anchorage in the mouth of the Amazon River near Macapa on Wednesday night, intending to rob it.
