GIRLS BASKETBALL Irish lose overtime tilt to Magnificat
Courtney Davidson scored 38 points and nine rebounds in the 62-60 Ursuline defeat.
ROCKY RIVER -- Rocky River Magnificat tied the score at 53 with three seconds remaining in regulation, then out-scored Ursuline 9-7 in overtime to upend the Irish 62-60 in a non-conference girls basketball game at Magnificat High Thursday.
Courtney Davidson, who led Ursuline (2-1) with 38 points and nine rebounds, drove the length of the floor with four seconds remaining and missed a 30-footer at the buzzer.
Christina Cook had a double-double for the Irish, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Emily Turza led Magnificat (4-0) with 21 points.
Chaney 38, Campbell 36: CAMPBELL -- Chaney scored the game's final nine points, to turn a 36-29 deficit into a comeback win over Red Devils.
Joselyn Parker scored five points during the run, and Sumya McElroy hit a running 8-footer with four seconds to play.
Parker finished with 12 points, three steals and McElroy added 11 points and three assists for the Cowboys (2-2). Tara Mshar had nine points and seven rebounds.
Sarah Toscano had 11 points and four steals for Campbell (2-2). Anna Zembillas scored 12 points and Tierra McIntosh had 13 rebounds.
Mineral Ridge 57, Niles 49: MINERAL RIDGE -- Dariana Casado notched a double-double, scoring 29 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to lead Mineral Ridge (2-1).
Tiffany Hack and Casado each had five assists for the Rams. Danielle Bako added 12 points in the win. Stacia Ray scored 28 points -- including six 3-pointers -- to lead Niles (0-3).
Leetonia 80, Western Reserve 52: BERLIN CENTER -- Sophomore Jessica DeVille had a career-high 30 points and the 6-foot center also had 14 rebounds for Leetonia.
Coming off a loss to Rayen, the Bears shot out to a 24-6 lead. DeVille made 12-of-18 shot and 6-of-7 free throws. Senior forward Jackie Durham added 24 while junior guard Bri Duko tacked on 14 points. Of Leetonia's 51 rebounds, Durham also had 12 and Jenni Santini seven.
Western Reserve (2-2) got 15 points from Anna Marie Ricciardi, 13 from Jen White and 12 from Mikah Berger.
