Students, cops team up for toy and food drive
LEETONIA -- Leetonia High School students and Leetonia and Salem Township police departments are once again teaming up for their Caring and Sharing toy and food drive. The high school students and police started the program last year to provide toys and food baskets to needy families for Christmas.
Donations of new toys, nonperishable food and financial contributions are needed by Wednesday. There are collection boxes at several Leetonia businesses.
Checks payable to the Leetonia Police Department may be dropped off there or mailed to Project Caring and Sharing at Leetonia Police Department, 300 E. Main St., Leetonia 44431.
Habitat sale
YOUNGSTOWN -- Fourteen area churches of all faiths will gather Saturday for a "Colossal Community Cookie Walk" to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County.
The event begins at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church at 3919 Southern Blvd. It will continue until all cookies are sold.
Organizer Wanda Marland said at least 12,000 homemade cookies will be up for grabs. Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County, now in its 25th year, builds affordable homes for local low-income families.
